Nicotine Dependence Predicts Abstinence Self-Efficacy Via Perceived Consequences of Smoking While Moderated By Length of Most Recent Quit Attempt

Abstract

We explored mechanisms explaining the relationship between nicotine dependence and relapse self-efficacy in current cigarette smokers. Analyses showed that both perceived negative consequences and perceived positive outcomes of abstinence mediated the relationship between dependence and self-efficacy. In addition, history of quit success moderated this mediation.
