Abstract
This research examined juror reactions to claims of false confession elicited in the context of “pretext calls” by laypersons. We varied three coercive caller tactics (relationship threat, police threat, minimization). Guilt judgments were inversely related to perceived caller pressure and were reduced by caller use of relationship threats.
