Distractions May Stem from People’s Reward Pursuit

Abstract

Distraction from the task at hand harms cognitive performance, yet the psychological mechanisms driving these distractions are not well understood. In this poster, I report a series of experiments that suggest that stimuli that previously predicted reward, are more distracting. These findings support a motivational perspective on distraction.
