Using Expressive Writing and a Teaching Intervention to Reduce Test Anxiety Effects on Exam Performance

Abstract

We investigated whether a teaching intervention and an expressive writing intervention could alleviate the negative effects of test anxiety on exam performance in a university course. The teaching intervention proved ineffective. However, expressive writing reduced exam performance differences among students with varying levels of test anxiety.
