Perspective-Taking Stifles Originality

Abstract

Perspective-taking has a plethora of positive consequences. In contrast, I propose and demonstrate in four studies that perspective-taking stifles rather than aids originality even under conditions that are generally ripe for it, such as counter-stereotyping. Last, I show that this effect is due to a cooperative mindset.
