When Photos Backfire: Truthiness in Comparative Judgements

Abstract
The acceptance of comparative claims was enhanced by a photo of the subject and impaired by a photo of the referent. These effects were moderated by the ease of imagining the subject. Throughout, fluency of processing the subject was more influential than fluency of processing the referent.
