A Penny for Your Thoughts: A Study on the Effects of Deception and External Validity

Currently, a debate exists regarding the need for deception in research and the ethical treatment of participants. Some suggest deception can cause emotional discomfort and pain for participants and that it promotes distrust within the existing participant pool. Our results suggest that deception has little-to-no negative impact on participants.
