Abstract

We studied distress among a representative national sample of Americans following the 2016 Orlando attack. We found that Hispanics and LGBT-people respectively reported greater distress and LGBT-people reported greater media exposure compared to controls. Results suggest that sharing a social identity with victims is an important risk factor of distress.
