Abstract
This study examined parental caregiving behaviors in response to prolonged infant crying using a simulated infant (N = 151). The results showed that as infant crying progressed, all parents engaged in less positive caregiving, more intrusive, insensitive, and inconsistent caregiving, and more negative caregiving behaviors.
