Abstract

How much of a psychotherapy interaction must be viewed to reliably judge therapeutic alliance? In this study, observers rated alliance from 5- or 10-min segments of therapy. Results indicated ratings from the short segments substantially predicted ratings from the long segments, suggesting alliance can be evaluated based on brief interactions.
