Abstract

Does incidental pride upwardly bias impressions of others? Is this bias mediated by assessment of others' behavior? This study showed that pride specifically increased competence evaluation of others; this bias was unaffected by others' mistakes. Prosocial modification of impression by pride was specific to competence and unmediated by cognitive assessment.
