Abstract

Using the Alternate Uses Task, we found more divergent thinking and greater recall performance when participants considered objects for their survival-value, relative to other scenarios. However, the magnitude of this advantage was greatest with the standard survival scenario, with smaller advantages for survival scenarios describing just a single problem.
