Learning from an Avatar Video Instructor: Gesture Mimicry Supports Middle School Students’ Algebra Knowledge

Abstract
Little research has explored the role of gesture in technology-based learning contexts. This study analyzed the gestures produced by students after viewing an avatar instructed algebra lesson. Students who mimicked the gesture of the avatar instructor scored higher on a posttest suggesting gesture mimicry facilitates learning.
