The Role of Instructional Gesture in Learning Abstract Science Concepts in College Students

Abstract

In a college students, the effect of gesture on learning abstract concepts was examined through a plate tectonic an instructional video. Learning was assessed across three instructional gesture conditions: no gesture, beat gesture, and iconic and deictic gesture. Preliminary results show that instructional gesture enhances the understanding of plate tectonics.
