Abstract

In seven studies, we examined if perceived self-efficacy has subconscious origins and can be primed to facilitate goal-directed behavior, and how it operates in conjunction with conscious, perceived self-efficacy. Convergent evidence suggests that self-efficacy can be activated outside of awareness to affect goal-directed behavior without assistance from perceived self-efficacy.
