Enhancing Critical Thinking Using Constructive Feedback

Abstract

There is little research on ways to enhance critical thinking. This study demonstrated that constructive feedback on questions that appear easy but are difficult improves performance on later difficult questions. We interpret these results as encouraging the switch to System 2 processing by giving subjects feedback about inaccurate answers.
