Implicit Bias and Severity of Punishment in Violent Vs. Nonviolent Cases

Abstract

We examined the role of implicit race bias in the decision-making of severity of the punishment handed down in both nonviolent and violent cases. The results of the study demonstrated that in nonviolent but not violent cases, implicit race bias played a role in the formation of a decision.
