Abstract

Expectations about caffeinated drinks affect attention. Do we hold the same expectancies for caffeinated gum? Subjects completed a cognitive task before and after chewing non-caffeinated gum. Some subjects were led to believe the gum was caffeinated. The results raise questions about the influence of caffeine expectancies on people’s cognitive abilities.
