Abstract

Collegians (n=162) randomly assigned to write specific or vague goals and provide subgoals or not, reported their state anxiety and, later, their goal achievement. Eighty percent of vague goals were achieved vs. 44% of specific goals, suggesting valid goal achievement comparisons require comparable specificity. No other effects were observed.
