Preschoolers with Lower Receptive Language Show More Social Withdrawal

Abstract

Primary school-aged children with receptive language deficits withdraw more than peers. Our study of 134 preschoolers found those with lower receptive language (PPVT-4; Dunn & Dunn, 2007) had greater parent-reported withdrawal (CBCL; Achenbach & Rescorla, 2001). Given these findings, research may want to focus on risk for receptive language deficiencies.
