Abstract

Using a novel scene paradigm, the current studies investigated how contextual schemas affect memory for schematic and non-schematic information. Results showed that the encoding schema consistently enhanced true memory for schematic information, but also increased schematic false memories. Non-schematic memory did not benefit from the schema unless given direct attention.
