Familial Caregivers’ Inaccurate Expression of Subjective Emotion Is Associated with Fewer Social Support Services Received

Abstract

In a sample of 55 familial caregivers of dementia patients, self-report data and videos of expressive behavior indicate that caregivers who do not accurately display their emotions receive fewer social support services. Caregivers may be doing themselves a disservice by hiding their negative emotions.
