Call for Nominations: 2026 John J. Carty Award In the Social Sciences

National Academy of Sciences

Nominations are open for the 2026 John J. Carty Award, which will recognize noteworthy and distinguished accomplishments in the social sciences (excluding economics). The award, under the auspices of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, is presented with a medal and a $25,000 prize.

Nominations must be submitted online by Monday, October 6, 2025 and include, a letter describing the candidate’s work and why they should receive the award; the nominee’s curriculum vitae, and a list of the nominees most significant publications. International nominees are eligible. More information on nomination requirements is available here.

AT&T established the award to honor the memory of its chief engineer, vice president, and telecommunications innovator John J. Carty.
