Special Issue Call for Submissions: “Advancing Psychological Science using Large Language Models”

Psychological Science invites submissions for a special issue on psychological science involving large language models. We welcome theoretically and empirically rigorous research that uses LLMs to advance psychological theory and/or develops or critically evaluates their use as tools in psychological research. Relevant topics may include, but are not limited to, LLM-based tools for researchers, human–LLM interaction, LLM-supported measurement, audio and video transcription, coding, and experimentation, and the reliability, validity, bias, and responsible use of LLM-based research methods. Submissions should make a clear contribution to psychological science and not be limited to technical model development. Submissions need to ensure full reproducibility of their entire pipeline. In cases where LLMs are part of a technical workflow, this explicitly precludes submissions based on black box commercial offerings. Prospective authors are also invited to review Psychological Science’s guidelines for use of LLMs in research prior to submission (https://www.psychologicalscience.org/publications/psychological_science/ps-submissions#LLM). Registered Reports will also be considered. All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process.

Authors should submit full manuscripts by 15 March 2027 and indicate in the “Comments to Editor” box during submission that the manuscript is intended for the “Psychological Science Involving Large Language Models special issue”.
