Beyond Binary Networks: Modeling Psychological Dynamics with the Blume–Capel Model

Saturday, May 30, 2026 · Barcelona, Spain

Oral · How We Know: Methods, Measurement & Open Science

We introduce the Blume–Capel model, a three-state psychological network model that allows variables to assume opposing and neutral states. Speakers apply the model to MDD and BD, address measurement challenges, and extend it to attitude dynamics, demonstrating how moving beyond binary symptoms and attitudes improves the study of psychological phenomena.
