Cisgender Individuals Beyond the Binary: Revealing Gender Diversity and the Psychology That Sustains the Binary

The dominant popular view of gender – the gender binary – holds that gender characteristics are consistent within individuals. We will demonstrate how moving beyond binary assumptions not only reveals previously obscured patterns of human variation but also clarifies the psychological processes that sustain the binary and resist such complexity.
