Why We Stay Engaged – and Why We Don’t: Integrating Self-Control, Boredom, Flow, and AI
This symposium seeks to clarify current inconsistencies in our understanding of effortful behaviors. We achieve this by addressing conceptual problems with self-control, identifying the motivational pull of highly stimulating gambling environments, providing a mechanistic model for when effort becomes rewarding, and examining contexts where people prefer effort to automation.
