Autobiographical Memory and Its Role in Collective Cognition

Abstract
The impact of collective knowledge on autobiographical memory is well established, but the reciprocal influence of autobiographical memory on collective cognition is less understood. Across four studies of neighborhoods, workplaces, and nations, memories of tangible group experiences are shown to strengthen identification and promote positive expectations about the collective future.
