Challenging Deficit Frames: Traumatic and Life Storylines Among Formerly Incarcerated Black Men

This presentation will apply the Dulwich Centre’s Traumatic and Life Storylines framework (Denborough, 2005) to examine how racism shapes identity among justice-involved Black men. Narratives from 21 formerly incarcerated men will highlight their experiences of harm, resistance to stigma, identity meaning-making, and the development of preferred identities despite adversity.
