Examining the Relationship between Cultural Tightness and Regional Cognition

Abstract
We investigated the relationship between cultural tightness and cognition across the U.S. We relied on multiple operationalizations of cultural tightness and looked at aggregated estimates of evaluative cognitive processes from geolocated internet respondents (N=952,992). Overall, we find stronger pro-ingroup/anti-outgroup evaluative processing in U.S. states that are more culturally tight.
