Abstract
We examined whether self-compassion buffered the effect of acculturative stress on depression in 979 Chinese and White university students. Participants completed measures of acculturative stress, self-compassion, and depressive symptoms. Self-compassion weakened the impact of social isolation on depression across groups, identifying it as a cross-cultural protective factor.
