Abstract

We examined how generation and judgments of learning influence memory across three tests in 237 college students. Using multinomial processing-tree models, results showed robust generation benefits but no evidence of learning across tests. JOLs improved retrieval monitoring rather than accuracy. Findings clarify distinct encoding and metacognitive pathways supporting memory performance.
