Mentoring between the Margins: Ethnic-Racial Socialization In Afterschool Spaces

Abstract
This study examines how mentors in afterschool programs influence Latine youths’ critical consciousness through ethnic-racial socialization (ERS). Surveying 250 adolescents, structural equation modeling will test whether mentor ERS predicts youths’ critical action (e.g., activism) and whether sociopolitical efficacy mediates this relation. Findings will illuminate how community-based settings foster sociopolitical development.
