Abstract

Experience-taking allows readers to adopt the perspective of story characters. Using fMRI, we find that neural synchrony among black and white individuals is differentially associated with experience-taking such that greater experience-taking leads to more diverse understanding among black listeners and more similar understanding among white listeners.
