Measuring Semantic Valence Provides Insights Into Mechanisms for Increasing Science Interest and Identity

Abstract
We investigated mechanisms underlying engagement in science education through two experiential science summer camps (N = 77, mean age = 11.4, SD = 1.1). The findings demonstrated that experiences that increase positive emotions and connect science to the everyday lives of learners explained significant variance in motivation for science learning.
