Testing Preparedness of True Crime Consumers Using a VR Simulation

Crime rates are declining, yet public fear of victimization and popularity of true crime are at all-time highs. We test an "illusion of control" hypothesis; predicting that true crime consumers will feel more prepared to face crime than they actually exhibit in a VR-based situational awareness task.
