Manipulations of Pitch Stability Transform Speech into Song

Abstract
We developed a method for creating stimuli, matched on text and global pitch contour, on a speech-song continuum through pitch stability manipulations alone. Participants (N = 34) imitated and rated how speech- or song-like each stimuli were. Analyses suggest more stable stimuli were imitated and perceived as more song-like.
