Abstract
We examined double standards in political judgments (N=455). Both Democrats and Republicans perceived outgroup partisans as more spiteful, supportive of undemocratic candidates, and supportive of partisan violence. Perceived violence gaps were larger among those who assumed greater ingroup-outgroup differences in norm adherence. Double-standard effects were absent in other variables.
