Abstract
Using reflexive thematic analysis, we qualitatively examined 35 Black college-attending emerging adults’ (ages 18-25; 21% female) decisions to engage in parent versus peer racial socialization. Three themes were identified including: 1) Uncensored Venting with Peers, 2) Parental Wisdom from Experience, and 3) Managing Parents’ Fears and Emotions (Through Strategic Omission).
