Abstract
Can observers use others’ affective reactions to make inferences about them? Across four studies, people inferred higher vs. lower expectations based purely on others’ affective reactions and tracked changes in those expectations over time. These effects extended to broader social impressions and choices in dictator and ultimatum games.
