Abstract

This study examines how stigma-related messages frustrate basic motives. Using a 2×2 design, the experiment manipulates denigration and exclusion via public-opinion posters to test effects on belonging, self-esteem, affect, and health outcomes among students and individuals with Type 2 diabetes, clarifying motivational mechanisms linking stigma to psychological consequences.
