Abstract

An online study of German and Finnish listeners found that lyrics comprehension increased sadness and nostalgia while reducing power. A within-subject lab study presented original versus pseudo-lyrics and revealed similar effects, complemented by increased arousal measured via skin conductance. Personality traits showed no moderating influence in either study.
