Regional Associations of Shifts In White Americans’ Intergroup Attitudes with Shifts In Black Americans’ Intergroup Attitudes

We examined regional-level associations of shifts in the explicit and implicit racial attitudes of 1.4 million White and Black Americans in six waves from 2008-2019. While regional increases in one group’s regional ingroup preference initially predicted parallel increases in the other’s ingroup preference, these relationships reversed direction over time.
