Neural Correlates of Episodic Simulation: An SDM Meta-Analysis of fMRI Studies

We present findings from a neuroimaging meta-analysis on autobiographical memory and imagination. Consistent with the episodic simulation hypothesis, we found a common underlying brain network that overlaps with the default mode network. It is differentially engaged during imagination, potentially reflecting increased demands on executive functions for novel hypothetical event construction.
