Impartial Beneficence Trade-Offs: Understanding Social-Relational Morality
- Ragelis Dominykas

Abstract
Our two large UK studies found that people who believe everyone’s well-being matters equally (impartially beneficent individuals) are more willing to help a stranger instead of a friend when the stranger is in bigger need. This shows that some people’s moral beliefs lead them to prioritize need over personal closeness.
