Abstract
We used EEG aperiodic slopes as a proxy for neural excitation-inhibition balance in autistic (AUT;N=35) and typically developing (TD;N=39) adults during passive viewing versus active task. AUT showed higher inhibition during active than passive task, while TD showed no task modulation (p<.001, BF10>1000). This demonstrates context-dependent compensatory mechanisms in autism.
