Abstract
We investigated how self-conscious emotions (SCEs) drive avoidance behavior. Mean negative SCEs predicted greater general and social-specific avoidance while positive SCEs predicted reduced social avoidance. Findings were clear at the person rather than signal level, suggesting that SCE may drive patterns of avoidance behavior in unique ways.
