Abstract

Theta oscillations are linked to predictive processing and reward during music listening, yet their specific contributions remain unclear. Using a decision-making paradigm with melodies varying in surprise and uncertainty, we found that auditory-temporal theta indexes precision-weighted musical prediction errors without evidence of reward encoding, clarifying its role in music listening.
