Buffering the Strain: The Role of Social Support in Mitigating Psychological Distress in Norwegian Caregivers of Children With and Without Mental Health Issues

We examined whether social support mitigated psychological distress in primary caregivers (M_age = 44.86) of children with (n = 61) and without a mental diagnosis (n = 40). Results indicated higher distress and lower social support in the diagnosis group. Higher social support, especially healthcare-based, translated into lower parental distress.
