Abstract
We examined whether grammatical gender automatically activates in Spanish and interacts with stereotypes and bilingual-experience. Using a gender-priming paradigm, we measured ERP responses to arbitrary/biological and neutral/stereotypical primes. Results reveal gender-congruency effect across all primes, stereotype-driven modulation in bilinguals, and no evidence that masculine forms function as generic in Spanish.
